“Do Good” poster design.

Nothing to me is more fun than creating cool art! But that enjoyment is compounded when you can do it in context of a greater cause than merely commercial. And that is the fundamental concept behind the web site called Help Ink.

The premise is simple, invite designers and illustrators to create incredible art that in return facilitates incredible charities. This great idea was also executed brilliantly through Help Ink’s beautiful website to display the every growing collection of posters.

Smart designers are not an island. They realize the importance of collaboration and Help Ink leveraged the creative talents at Vahalla Studios to pull off the incredible silk screened poster prints.

So step inside this post and take a peek behind the scene at Vahalla Studios as they print my “Do Good” poster design for Help Ink.

Printing Pantone 129 U.

Silk screen printing is an art in and of itself and takes craftsmanship to pull it off well and Vahalla Studios is one of the best vendors in this arena.

Printing Pantone 3125 U.

I specifically designed this poster for screen printing. Avoiding butt fit registration by keeping a nice gap between the colors so the final result would come out clean.

But the beauty of screen print is the inherent imperfections that make the character of the printing wonderfully organic. Once an ink is printed it has to go on a drying rack before printing the next color.

Preparing to print the third color.

Registration is done by eye and uses a straight edge template taped to the printing surface.

Printing Pantone 180 U.

The third color is now printed. A total of 400 impressions were silk screened to create the final limited run of 100 poster designs. That’s a lot of skilled manual labor and patience to keep the entire run consistent from beginning to end.

On the drying rack again.

The third color is shelved on the rack so it can cure before printing the last color in the poster design.

Final color Pantone 4625 U printed.

The posters are now finished and are in transit to Glitschka Studios where I’ll sign all of them and than ship them back to Help Ink where you can purchase one through. Remember, each poster purchase supports a charity. I hope you like the design and thanks in advance for supporting a good design cause.
