Drone print design.
Disclaimer: In general I loathe political discourse. And I think our two party system is a perfect example of the definition of insanity. Because of that I rarely make political statements with my art, but when something really hinky comes up, creativity tends to be the release valve I use for addressing the topic. So keep that in mind as you continue to read this post.
Suffice it to say that our government seems to thrive on any chance it gets to leverage more control of our private lives. The so-called new reality force feeds us a daily diet of fear mongering, facilitated by dumb ass laws like the patriot act.
The DHS wants us all to act like Mrs. Kravitz and consider everyone around us a potential suspect of terror. Our leaders even use tax payer funded marketing methods wrapped in a thin veneer of patriotism to produce psyops propaganda branded with slogans like “See Something, Say Something!”
E Pluribus Destructum
The military industrial complex has been waging drone wars in Iraq and Afghanistan for the past decade. (Longer than that actually) Most of these sorties are controlled by troops stationed in Arizona who bring death from above and than go home to their suburban home at the end of the day to watch American Idol.
I’ve had some dispute my design by saying “The CIA and military are two different entities.” Maybe in their approach to marketing themselves to the mainstream they prefer that assumption, but in reality the system that utilizes drones is like a Hydra and they all exploit it.
But drones aren’t just about killing, they can improve other countries economies too. (Rolling Eyes)
All Seeing Eye
What’s good enough for other countries is apparently good enough for us now too. Because these drones are now flying high over American soil, hunting illegals. Law enforcement agencies have tested them for civilian patrolling purposes.
The surveillance state is already firmly in place in the UK, and serves as a proof of concept for our own government. So it’s no surprise that the use of drones by US law enforcement is now on the rise.
From Above with Love
Our government wants you to get use to seeing drones flying in US airspace. So they’ll condition us for this by feeding it through the meme of rah rah stories like drones being used to fight wildfires or drones used to track floods etc.
Sneaker Drones
It begs the question. Do we have to worry that a reaper drone will reign hell fire missiles down upon our homestead because Mrs. Kravitz across the street saw something and said something? Probably not. But a predator drone could easily be used to snoop on us at any time, for any reason, without any probable cause what so ever thanks to the patriot act and the NDAA.
If a bunch of mouth breathing geeks can pimp out some remote control drones to do their wi-fi hacking for nefarious intent, how easy would it be for a predator to gather information on any one of us using it’s billion dollar technology?
Further more if hackers can penetrate military grade systems within the U.S. Drone army than no one is truly safe. Kind of defeats the mainstream meme I’d say.
But our leadership chants the mantra of “Don’t be paranoid, it’s for your own safety. You don’t have anything to fear if you’re not doing anything wrong, and besides what do you have to hide anyway?”
So I’ve taken my governments advice, I’ve seen something and have said something now.

Well said, and I couldn’t agree more, Von.
Great design. Perfect post.
Great post. Couldn’t have said it better myself. Keep up the awesome work.
Excellent commentary Von – love the poster too (hangs together nicely as a whole)!
Awesome design, and I couldn’t agree more with the message! I’d love to buy a t-shirt with this on it…
I completely agree with you! I am so glad more people are waking up and getting tired of this BS. The Patriot Act is too open-ended, and who knows how they’re interpreting it. By the way, my last TSA-patdown was so intrusive, I’ve given up on flying and will be driving from now on. Also, I’m not sure what “freedoms” of ours the ‘terrorists’ are so jealous of…
Love your work as always, Von! There are lots of tradeoffs one has to make when living in a free society… being free inherently means living with risks… risks of terrorists, bad guys, etc. When does the “medicine” (i.e. government drones & surveillance) become worse than the “illness” (threat of terrorism and “bad guys”)? In response to Shumyla’s comment on the TSA patdowns… I totally agree. In addition to that, I think it’s so backward that airline pilots have to go through the rigorous security screenings and patdowns. They won’t let these guys have a pocket knife on board, but they’re allowed to fly jet-fuel laden missiles over our cities with no problem. That’s insanity.
DARPA also seems to be interested in having high-school kids develop new drone models for them via the MENTOR program (http://www.librarycult.com/2012/02/make-darpa-one/)
Love your work as always!
But I have a huge complaint like HUGE! you mentioned above: “The military industrial complex has been waging drone wars in Iraq and Afghanistan for the past decade.”
Not mentioning about PAKISTAN being the victim of drone attacks, you are missing or I should say not doing a justice with your design description.
I’m not omitting Pakistan or any other geographic area on purpose. It’s pretty obvious that the US military is doing this all over the world and the same military grade tech is now being turned on it’s own citizens state side now.
Besides the whole reason I linked related stories in this post above is to reflect the bigger picture and several of the links cover Pakistan and the dawn of the drone in American skies as well.
So I suggest you focus your scorn where it’s better served, towards those carrying out these actions instead of those trying to expose them. You’re preaching tot he choir.
Great design and a solid issue. Where does this situation go from here? and do we have a say?
Keep up the good work.
Joe,
Our system of leadership is broken. Einstein defined insanity as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Well that pretty much describes our governing authority both locally and nationally.
Most people care more about American Idol than they do the degradation of liberty. Keep the populous entertained and slowly erode their base of real freedom and choice until it’s too late to do anything that has true leverage for reversing it.
Pray, stand your ground, treat others how you’d want to be treated, call out the dork weeds trying to give themselves more power to take away our liberty under the guise they know better how we should live our lives than we do and exercise our creativity to expose them, mock them and market against it better than they market for it.
This is also why the same people in power are trying to regulate the internet, it’s the great equalizer and they have to be able to shut it off and neutralize it otherwise they won’t be able to control the narrative they want people to adopt into mainstream.
Amazing!!! Great poster!
