Signing my “Really Weird” posters.
I had a blast signing the posters I created at the HOW Design Conference in Boston last month. Too many people left empty handed however since I only signed 50 posters.
The good news is I had additional posters printed and they’re now available!
“Really Weird” posters ready to hang on your wall.
These posters are 18 x 24 inches and are currently filling one drawer in my studio flat file.
What does the design say to you?
The title of this poster is “Really Weird” for obvious reasons. So out of curiosity I sent the design to a professional psychotherapist by the name of Eleanor who had agreed to give me her professional analysis of my art and here is a few things she discerned after looking at it:
Colors Used
The soft colors suggest that you are a gentle, kind person.
Tree & Roots
The tree with roots underground suggest that you have parts of yourself that are a mystery, unknown to you.
Character Faces
The characters’ faces indicate that you approach scary things in life with humor.
Flying Pencil
The pencil with wings at the center top indicates that it is your art, creativity that sets your spirit free.
Faucet Dripping
The faucet dripping from the tree with dark liquid and the skull indicate that there something in your family history that needs to be relieved, eliminated.
The Pyramid
The pyramid with the eye in flames indicates that you have a passion for seeking wisdom.
Bearded Worm & Bird
The complex male face on the top right with the beard with keys hanging down and a skull coming out of its head indicates that male authority that once kept you inhibited is dying. The bird perched below, singing, is symbolic of your freedom.
Overall
Overall the drawing indicates that you are on a spiritual journey.
I should qualify that I’m not a huge fan of modern psychology in all it’s various forms, but I have to say that Eleanor’s analysis surprised me because it hit very close to home on several points. Some of the things she said I had never really thought of before so that gave me insight into why I draw what I draw in some respects. That said there’s a lot going on in this design and I want it’s interpretation to be something the viewer creates on their own. Make it mean what you want it to mean or just enjoy it for pure crazy aesthetic it is. It’s all good.
Rising of the creative sun.
When I first showed my wife this poster she looked at it and her brow furrowed while saying “You’re weird.” To which I replied “Mission accomplished.” LOL See, it’s fun just coming up with your own meaning for stuff.
Vanquish thy leaky faucet.
The poster is texture rich, and screen printed in dark brown and dusty blue ink on uncoated Neenah Paper Classic Crest 100 C Natural White Eggshell stock.
One of over 25 oddities in this design.
Of course no poster is complete without a cycloptic worm wearing a fedora and smoking a cigarette while taking a leisurely swim through a sea of unconscious thought. That alone is worth the purchase.
My John Hancock.
The jury is still out if this adds any value but I’ll sign and number each poster ordered. The print run was limited to just 150 prints and I have 100 available for sale.

Where are the photos of the seething mass of HOW attendees who were about to poke each others’ eyes out to get their hands on one o’ these puppies in Boston?
Well I had no time to take any photos. I had to give my iPhone to someone so they could snap the picture I did use. I’d prefer a more relaxed signing where I can talk to people and no one worries about getting a poster. It’s a lot more fun that way IMO.
How cool Von–so proud of you!
I maintained my dignity and stayed back (this time). However, I may order one still.
I’ll throw in a FREE sticker for you Laura!
That piece is great… and having your art analyzed– WOW Brilliant idea!!
